CAE Case Study: The Evolution of an Online Certification Program at the Tea Association of Canada

Discover how the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada introduced and evolved their TEA SOMMELIER® Certification program from an in-class local program serving approximately 10 students per session to a global online course that reached over 500 students in 2016. The TEA SOMMELIER® Certification program was awarded a CSAE Award of Distinction in 2016.

 

A TEA SOMMELIER™ Professional is...

A trained and knowledgeable tea professional who has successfully completed the Tea Association of Canada certification examination, as a result, is well versed on all aspects of tea as it affects the consumer.

    Louise Roberge, CAE is the President of the Tea Association of Canada where  she has been working diligently to represent, protect and promote the Tea Industry in Canada for the last sixteen years. She spearheads the industry’s educational and public relations efforts relative to communicating the many attributes of tea to consumers. Louise has a number of degrees and certifications; most recently she earned her certification as a TAC TEA SOMMELIER® Professional, offered by the Tea Association of Canada. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of Montreal, Masters of Business (MBA) from Sherbrooke University, is a Certified Association Executive (CAE). Fully bilingual she understands and appreciates the diversity of tea leaders and aficionados around the world.

     

    By the time Shabnam Weber was 24, the Toronto entrepreneur had opened restaurants in Bermuda and Germany. The passion for tea is what led her to establish her own tea shop when she returned home to Toronto four years later. She is the founder and owner of the specialty tea boutique The Tea Emporium Inc., which acquires and sells teas from around the world.  The company plays a large role in importing and blending teas for restaurants, hotels and specialty shops.

    Shabnam is also the founder and Program Director of the Academy of Tea which offers the TAC TEA SOMMELIER® Certification Program online to students across the globe. 

    Using her passion and knowledge of tea, Shabnam has created a place for herself in the tea industry by sitting on the Board of Directors of the Tea Association of Canada, chairing several committees on the Board, guest speaking at the World Tea Expo ,and writing the TAC TEA SOMMELIER® Certification Program for Tea Association of Canada. Shabnam has both a Political Science Degree and a Post-Graduate Degree in Psychology from the University of Toronto.
