Be Strategic About Your Strategic Planning Workshop

Most professional associations understand that strategic planning is a key activity that reinforces good stewardship of the organization. The problem, however, is they don’t always follow a systematic approach to this critical endeavour, and struggle to realize real value from the process. Done well, strategic planning can ensure alignment among all of the organization’s elements. It improves member satisfaction, builds employee morale, creates financial sustainability, and elevates the overall profile and brand of the association. But when done poorly, it can be a frustrating exercise that goes nowhere and saps goodwill from all involved.

Grounded in practical experience based on working with a variety of professional associations in different industries (including health care, professional services, and finance), this interactive presentation will focus on maximizing the benefits from the strategic planning process … from the very earliest planning stages all the way through to ensuring the outcomes take root throughout the organization.

During the workshop, you’ll learn how to:
  • Identify what should trigger a strategic planning process, and when one should be deferred.
  • Clarify how to approach strategic planning, based on the key questions to ask about your situation and your organization
  • Link strategic and tactical planning together to ensure that strategy is integrated into operations.
